Walker Wilkerson has always been addicted to anything that was fast and had a motor attached to it. At the age of 5 Walker received his first dirtbike and started racing motocross by the age of 6. Being at the age of 6, this was a big wake up call in the “what do I want to be when I grow up” department of young Walker. Almost instantly, he developed a passion for extreme sports that had a direct connection with speed and agility.
When Walker was 16, he stumbled across an Option D1GP video on YouTube; this quickly shifted his interests in a new direction. The sight of two cars sliding at such an intense speed, and so close to one another was unlike anything Walker had seen before. He knew he had to be involved. Soon after, Walker began attending drifting events at Evergreen Speedway as a spectator, little did he know that a year later, he would be the one on the track.
Now at the age of 22 Walker is poised to be the next break through driver in Formula Drift. With his aggressive style on the track and calm respectful demeanor in the paddock, he has instantly become a fan favorite. This is in evident in the fact that Walker won the 2011 “Formula Drift Fan Favorite Driver of the Year Award” as a rookie. Proving that he has already built up a significant fan base in which rivals the top competitors in Formula D
In 2011 Walker showed flashes of his skill and talent but was plagued with multiple car issues, which is a product of building, maintaining, and transporting his own vehicle. However, Walker never gave up and did what it took to make it to every round with little to no funding. This dedication was recognized by his peers and competitors as he won the 2011 “Formula Drift Spirit of Drifting Award,” another huge accolade for a rookie. Walker has proven that he has the style, skills, and dedication to be a top driver in the sport.
As a true product of the grassroots system Walker is looked at as a driver who made it to Formula D the right way. Through his hard work, aggressive driving, and support from his girlfriend Vanessa, family and friends. This respect from and connection to the grassroots scene is extremely valuable, especially in a time when drifting is progressing to a level of huge sponsors and unobtainable car builds
Very few Rookie drivers make as much of an impact as Walker has, and there are no signs of him stopping anytime soon. Between insane entry speeds, backward initiations and a style rivaling the best in the world, Walker is a force to be reckoned with and is here to stay.
